Ongoing Tuesday Morning Classes Location: Bodega Barn, 5055 Bodega Ave., Petaluma CA Workshop
Dates: - Contact Person: Susan Adams
I have made a decision concerning the Tuesday morning classes that I know will disappoint many of you. I have been teaching weekly Tuesday classes for 12 years, so this is not an easy decision. However, I am at a pivotal point in my growth as a painter and I need to devote as much time as possible to my daily practice right now. I have decided to stop offering the Tuesday morning classes for the time being. I will, however, continue to give painting workshops both locally and abroad.
WATERCOLOR—A Colorist Approach Location: Pt Reyes Field Seminars, Pt Reyes, California Workshop
Dates: 9/18/2010 - 9/18/2010 Contact Person: Catherine Hunter
Painting is about seeing. In this one-day workshop you will learn how to develop your "painter's eye" using color to show form. This direct (and fun) way of painting keeps your watercolors looking fresh and spontaneous. Working in both still life and landscape genres, we will look for the big shapes and put them down in a focused direct way. The goal is to see it, simplify it and state it. We will work in the studio and, weather permitting, outside on the deck or in the yard. The way you see and paint will be transformed!

WATERCOLOR & GOUACHE—A Perfect Marriage Location: Pt Reyes Field Seminars, Pt Reyes, California Workshop
Dates: 11/6/2010 - 11/6/2010 Contact Person: Catherine Hunter
In this one day workshop we will explore gouache, which is an opaque water based medium that differs from transparent watercolor in several ways: with watercolor, tiny particles of pigment become enmeshed in the fiber of the paper; with gouache, the color lies on the surface of the paper, forming a continuous layer. Gouache is also heavier than watercolor, which gives it greater reflective qualities, resulting in a lovely matte finish. We will combine opaque gouache and transparent watercolor to create a unique look. This exciting process allows for more creative freedom than watercolor alone. Finally, we will preserve our pieces with wax medium, allowing them to be framed without glass. Don't miss this opportunity to experiment with the ancient medium of gouache!
